Trying to Catch Up

Sorry! I've been having some trouble uploading pictures to Flickr, so I am WAY behind. I'm working on catching up. Luckily, I was able to fix the comment problem (I think). Let me know if you are able to leave comments yet, and if not, please send me an email. Hopefully I'll be all caught up soon and I can start blogging real time. I have so many things to be thankful for!

Rick's 60th Birthday

On November 7, 2009, my wonderful father-in-law, Rick, turned 60 years old.  Debbie, Elizabeth, Jason, Matt and I decided to throw him a surprise birthday party.  He and Gerry had dinner reservations and tickets to the symphony, so it was hard to get them to come over that day, but luckily Gerry had some Juice Plus and candy apples to share with us, so they agreed to come over before dinner.  Well they were in for a surprise when we had a big crowd in the main room of our house yelling, "surprise!"  You should have seen the look on their faces!  Rick was grinning from ear to ear the rest of the night.

Another Surgery

Well it has been a very long time since I have taken a moment to update this site.  My format is still a mess too!  I've been quite busy lately.  I am preparing for another surgery this Friday.  I will need to take it easy after that, so I'm hoping to get caught up with this this weekend.  So check back then and I will hopefully have several posts including Rick's 60th Birthday, a random night at a Mexican Restaurant and our trip to Memphis this past weekend.

The "Last Supper"

As most of you know I had to get a lump removed from my breast yesterday. Because I wasn't able to eat anything after midnight the night before, Matt decided to cook me my "Last Supper" before surgery at 1:30 the next day. So what do you think he may have made for me? Why Steak of course! It was seriously the best steak Matt has ever made!

Matt found it humorous that I was wearing a cow shirt as I was eating the cow. (Thanks for that Sabrina!)

The next day my mom took me in for my procedure (thanks Mom!). The doctors and nurses were all very wonderful! Nurse Sherry prepped me, Doctor Carter and Nurse Antsiest Joe did my anesthetic, Dr. Yazdi did the actual surgery and Nurse Emmy took care of me in recovery. All in all they did a wonderful job and I couldn't ask for better care. When the surgery was over, the doctor told me the lump was the size of a LEMON!!!!! Holy Moly!

My mom bought me lunch after the procedure since I hadn't eaten anything since about 8pm the night before (it was 3:00pm by this point). I put my food down and went to the kitchen to get my favorite water jug to drink out of. I searched all over for it and couldn't find it. So I had to call Matt at work to find out if he knew where it was. He was like, "It's in your room." I was confused since I specifically remember bringing it in the kitchen the night before. When I got to my room, look what I found:

Get Well

Matt came home on his lunch hour to decorate my room! What a guy! After that, I pretty much just rested all night. I've been doing pretty much the same thing today as well, and hopefully I'll feel good enough to get off the Vicodin and go to back to work tomorrow.

Get Well

Yes, he got me balloons, flowers, my favorite water jug AND a chocolate bar! Yumm!

Today's Wonderfuls:

- A fantastic husband who not only took care of me before surgery but also thought to pamper me afterwards.
- A wonderful mom who is willing to drop everything to take care of me.
- Great doctors and nurses who provided great care.
- All my friends and family who prayed for me.

Will's Baptism

As I mentioned in the last post, I am so glad the time fell back on Sunday morning - especially since it was Will's baptism that day! It was such a wonderful day! The weather was perfect, the ceremony was perfect and most importantly, Will was perfect.

We started off the day with 11:00 mass at St. Peter's Church. Immediately after mass, Fr. Jack gave the most beautiful Baptismal Ceremony I have ever attended. He started in the back of the church and explained everything to us, said some prayers, had everyone trace a cross on Will's head, and then we went into the church to finish the Baptism. As I mentioned, Will was just absolutely perfect through the entire ceremony. He didn't seem to mind the water and didn't even flintch when Fr. Jack doused him with the crism oil (and boy did he smell good after that!)

After the Baptism, we went over to Ann and James's house for a beautiful reception. Ann made a delicious chicken casserole and salad and crossont rolls. They served us off of their fine china and out of their Waterford Crystal. It was spectacular!

Today's Wonderfuls:

- Will - the best nephew an Aunt could ask for
- Ann and James's family - Harriet & Arnaud, Colleen & Ray, Matt & Cori, Erin, Ann, James & Will, and of course Matt(and me!) - Will is the most loved child I know
- God's gift of Baptism for Will

Halloween

As promised, here is what we did on our wonderful Halloween night this year.

I started the day off at Anna's baby shower. It was a Cardinal theme, so we got to wear jeans and t-shirts - which is always welcome for a shower! They served peanuts, cracker jacks, hot dogs, mini burgers and nachos. Anna and Matt got some lovely gifts for their baby. All in all it was a wonderful shower. Oh and Anna looks great!

After that, Sarah, Vicki, Katie and I met the boys over at Katie and Adam's house. We had some drinks, ate some candy, played Wii, ordered pizza . . . pretty much the usual, but it was also as much fun as usual!

Next, it was time for Matt and I to get into our costumes. I'm sure most people who are reading this, know about Matt purchasing me a dirndl during a "man weekend" this summer. If you don't, let me know and I can post about that someday. So I went as a 19th century German girl. So of course Matt had to wear lederhosen. He got quite the laugh and a little bit of mocking from the rest of our friends, but all in all it was a hit.

Our next destination was my sister's house. She and her roommate Anne threw a wonderful party.

We played flip cup and beer pong.

Erin and Anne provided a delicious pomegranate champagne, which I enjoyed a bit too much :). There was some pretty funny and some really good costumes - here are the highlights:

After Erin and Anne's party, we headed over to Boris's house. We finally got to meet Boris's dad and sister which was wonderful! They are such a great family!

We pretty much just spent the rest of the night mingling until I hit a wall and it was time to go to bed. All I can say is that I was extremely glad we "fell back" that next day, or it would have been rough!

Today's Wonderfuls:
- Having such wonderful friends to celebrate Halloween with
- Funny and creative costumes
- Pomegranate Champagne
- Anna's baby that will be here soon
- Daylight savings on a night we were out late

Pumpkin Carving

The other night, Matt and I met over at Katie and Adam's house to carve pumpkins. We had a blast! I love hanging out with Katie. It's pretty much an unspoken rule that whenever we hang out at their house or ours, we wear comfy clothes. So I was rocking my bachelorette party shirt and my Cor Jesu sweatpants. Oh, and Matt would be upset if I forgot to mention I also had on my fuzzy socks. (You gotta love fuzzy socks!)

When we first got over there, I was soooo hungry. We all know what happens when I'm hungry . . . Let's just say I'm not the most pleasant person to hang out with. To make matters worse, Katie happened to be wearing a t-shirt with a slice of pizza on it. Torture! Lucky for me, Katie is a good friend:

And to top it off, they had already ordered the pizza, so it was on the way! Crisis averted!

We ate the pizza then the carving began. Adam decided to carve a scary guy peeking through the blinds to go with his scary window in his front room. Katie was afraid that the little kids might not show up at the house with all the scary stuff going on so she carved Mickey Mouse. Matt always has to choose the most difficult pattern - this year it happened to be a scarecrow. I did a cute little ghost that says Boo!

(as you can see in the picture above, even Bruce got in on the action. For those that don't know, Katie has a shark fetish - that's a whole different post - anyway, the little Pez dispenser in the picture above is Bruce the shark. Katie has several Bruces).

After the carving was finished we decided to bake the pumpkin seeds. Katie had printed off a bunch of different recipes, but of course all I wanted were the regular salty ones. We did make ranch and cinnamon sugar as well though.

We finished the night off by playing Adam's newest Wii game until I abruptly announced that it was time for me to go to bed. All in all it was a wonderful night - but it was super hard to get up for work the next morning!

Anyway, I hope everyone had a fantastic Halloween. We certainly had an eventful one! That will be the next post!

Today's Wonderfuls:
- Having such wonderful friends in Katie and Adam
- Laughter
- Pizza
- Comfy clothes (especially fuzzy socks)

In a "Funk"

I don't really know where to start with this, so I'm just gonna dive right in. Lately I have been in what I can only describe as a "funk". I don't really know what is wrong with me or why I can't seem to pull myself out of it, but for my sake and for the sake of the people who love me, I thought I'd start this blog.

I feel like George Bailey in It's a Wonderful Life. I'm not suicidal or anything, but I feel like I am throwing my life away. I don't feel like I'm passionate about anything. I won't go into too much detail of what has led me to this point because that is not what this blog is about. This blog is about the positive in life.

In the movie, George was given the gift of seeing what a great life he has had. I chose to give myself the same gift. By blogging about my MANY blessings, I will see what a wonderful life I have too.

"You see George, you've really had a wonderful life. Don't you see what a mistake it would be to just throw it away?" - Clarence
